Pink Fleece Coat for Little Momo

Even in Texas, there are cold days in winter.   Momo needed a new jacket that is large enough for her to wear on top of bulky sweater or sweatshirt.

Blue and White Holiday Dress for Little Momo

I had the idea of blue and white holiday dress since the last Holiday season.  I don't normally shop at the malls, but one day before Christmas I was walking around the mall, and a blue & white dress for little girls caught my eyes. I did not get to make it last year, since I was busy and I already had another store-bought Holiday dress for Momo.  But this year Momo needed a new Holiday dress, so here it is.

Flannel Nightgown for Little Momo

I know I said "Nightgown" in the title.  But I did not mean to make a nightgown.  I wanted a daytime dress, but I used a flannel fabric and the dress looks like a nightgown.  I could not take Momo outside wearing it, so now it is a nightgown.

Updated Autumn Fairy Dress for Little Momo

I love the Renaissance Festival.   My hubby and I have been going to the festival every year, and  that continues now with our daughter Momo.  I dressed up Momo as an Autumn fairy last year, and she was adorable.  This year I just did not have enough time to come up with something new, so I brought out the Autumn fairy dress that was worn last year only once, and updated it.

Tsumami Flower Hair Accessories for Little Momo

753 is a traditional Japanese event to celebrate and wish for the children's good health and growth.  Typically girls are celebrated at the the age 3 and 7, while boys are celebrated at the age 5, though this varies with areas and family traditions.  Children are dressed up in kimono or special occasion dresses, and go visit a shrine for blessings.

Alice in Wonderland Dress for Little Momo

This year I wanted Momo to decide what to be for Halloween.  I told her she could be anything she wanted, and Momo got so excited when she heard that.  But then she told me she wanted to be a tiger.  To be honest, I was a little disappointed.  I expected her to tell me something only 2-year-old imagination could come up with, so "tiger" was a little boring to me.  An hour later Momo told me she wanted to be a tiger, she changed her mind and told me she wanted to be a cheetah instead.  A cheetah.  Still a little boring choice I thought, but I thought we would let her be a cheetah if that was what she wanted.

Then I let Momo watch Disney's Alice in Wonderland...and Momo fell in love with the movie!  Since she loves it so much, I asked her if she wanted to be "Alice" instead of a cheetah.  The answer was "Yes!"

Let's Go Rockets! Dress for Little Momo

We do not watch Football or Baseball...Basketball is the game to watch in our house.   Texas has 3 champion teams, but Houston being the nearest city to where we live, naturally we are cheering for Houston Rockets.  I have not been to the games for about 3 years now.  But I think Momo is now old enough to handle the loud crowd, we are hoping to take her to the games.

Pumpkin Peasant Dress for Little Momo

Last year I made a pillowcase dress with pumpkin face on it.  Since it is a pillowcase dress, my daughter can still wear it this year and probably for few more years as a top.  So I was not planning on making another pumpkin face dress...but I had this orange and green print fabric that somehow screamed "Halloween!" to me.  I got coordinating orange fabric and made another peasant dress.
Again I used Marilyn's Slim Fit Peasant Dress pattern from Create Kids Couture.  This time I made the dress just a bit shorter and wider, to make it look more like a pumpkin.

Fall Little Birdie Peasant Dress for Little Momo

I bought this orange bird print in fat quarters last year.  I did more fabric shopping than I ever meant to do this year, so I am trying to use up some of my stash fabrics.  After taking the ruffle dress challenge, I wanted to make something quick and simple.  And peasant dress is becoming my go-to-kind of dress now.

Ruffle Halter Dress for Little Momo

This Ruffle Halter Dress has been on my to-do list for a while.  Now that my new sewing machine came with a ruffle foot and a narrow hem foot, I finally took the challenge!
The dress pattern is Ruffle Halter Dress from Ellie Inspired.  The link to this dress pattern and the tutorial seems to have been removed, but I had the pattern printed out so I was able to make it.

Gauze Blanket for Little Momo

I got my new sewing machine!  After checking different brands and models online, reading all reviews, I decided to get Singer 7258.  It is an affordable model and seems very popular.  I got mine for less than $170.  My hubby was actually willing to spend more, if that would keep me from screaming and yelling at the sewing machine...  But I could not tell if spending few more $100s would make a difference, and certainly commercial grade machine is not something I need.  So I chose this Consumer Digest "Best Buy" model  :)

Little Birdie Peasant Dress for Little Momo

I wanted to make a simple, no-fail kind of dress with my old sewing machine before I replace it with a new one.  I bought my Brother sewing machine more than 10 years ago at Wal-Mart.  I believe I paid about $100.  I wanted to sew curtains and whatever needed after moving into a new house, and I only need a very basic sewing machine at that time.  When I bought it, I never thought I would use it to sew clothes for my daughter...   As I sew more often, the problem with my sewing machine became an issue.  The machine has let me create many dresses, but not without frustrations...because thread gets jammed all the time. Changing around the stitch settings did not fix the issue, so I decided to change the machine!  So this dress shoule be the last dress made with the old machine...

Orange Gauze Summer Dress for Little Momo

More than 2 months ago, I took green gauze fabric and orange gauze fabric out of the stash, and asked my daughter Momo which one she liked better.  She chose the orange without hesitation.  I told her I would make her a dress with it, and she was happy to hear that.  My daughter seems to have completely forgotten about it, but it is about  time I keep my promise ;)

Mommy and Me look

Our outfits are not exactly "matching", but more like "coordinated" together.  Here my daughter Momo is wearing the bubble top I made few weeks ago.   I do dress younger than my age, but the bubble shape or the cotton print I used for her outfits are not something I dare to copy for myself.  Instead, I am wearing a simple gray tube dress,  adding a little yellow color with metal earrings, citrine necklace, and a cardigan.

Bubble Top for Little Momo

This has been a summer of sewing for me.  I am just so into making clothes for my daughter right now.  Since I did not make a dress last week, I had to make something this past weekend even if that meant one sleepless night for me (because I am really slow at sewing...)

Flower Hair Accessories for Little Momo

I did not sew a dress for Momo this weekend...because I had other things to do, like sewing a new curtain because Momo ripped the old one beyond repair :(  But I used Momo's nap time to make some flower hair accessories.
Those are the same flowers I made last year in this post.  I made them smaller this time, because I am not worried about Momo swallowing them as much as I used to (but I do still watch her).

Patriotic Dress for Little Momo (and Me!)

This year I wanted to make a "Red, White and Blue" dress for my daughter before July 4th.  I found this plaids fabric at a local fabric store for 70% off from the regular price of $3.99 a yard!  Sold!
I am not a fabric expert, but I think this fabric may be considered medium weight fabric.  I just thought the Party Dress pattern was perfect for this fabric.

W Gauze White & Blue Dress for Little Momo

About 2 months ago I did fabric shopping online. I was browsing through and I saw so many beautiful fabrics. And this nani IRO double gauze fabric was one of them.   The fabric cost more than what I am usually willing pay, so I did not buy it right away.  But then I kept thinking about this fabric, so I had to buy it.  I bought less than a yard, thinking to make something simple.  A fabric this beautiful just need a simple design to show itself off.

Refashioned Knit Peasant Dress for Little Momo

I have been keeping myself busy lately.  I have many sewing projects I want to try.  But after making the garden party dress that took me hours and one sleepless night to complete, I was a bit burned out.  I needed a quick and easy project.  Simple refashion project was what I needed.

Garden Party Dress for Little Momo

Momo and other little girls were offered to have the photos taken by a semi-professional at a beautiful garden settings.  Momo had a lot of photos taken wearing the Easter dress this year already, so I thought she should wear a new fancy dress for this occasion. I had bought this organza-like print fabric a while ago and meaning to make a dress with it, so that is what I did.

W Gauze Itty Bitty Top for Little Momo

The summer is here, and it it the season for one of my favorite dress pattern :)  This is Itty Bitty Baby Dress Pattern from Made by Rae.  I made 2 dresses and 1 top using this pattern last summer.  The dresses still can be worn this year, but the top I made last year is too small for Momo this year.  What a perfect excuse to make a new one :)

ABC Book for Little Momo

Before my daughter Momo turned 1, I spend days trying to come up with the perfect 1st birthday gift.  There were not going to be a huge party or piles of gifts. Instead, I wanted to give her something affordable and meaningful to us. I had collected many picture books even before Momo was born, because I wanted her to be a book-lover.  So I decided to give her a book on her birthday as well, and I decided to give her a book on her birthday every year as long as she likes this idea.

More Pillowcase Dresses

I bought some cute fabrics online, and while I wait for my order to arrive, I thought I should go through my stash fabrics and make some space for the new ones.  I wanted to make more pillowcase dresses for Dress a Girl project, so I looked for dark colored fabric that are not see-through, so that I would not have to add lining.

Pillowcase Dresses for Dress a Girl Around the World

I have had blog-free days last couple of weeks.  I have been busy with work, and I had a couple of birthdays to celebrate.  I have been spending my free time on shopping for the birthday gifts, and also shopped for the mother's day gift.   I know I have missed some goodies out there in blogland, but I am feeling happy because  I also squeezed shopping for myself and bought some really pretty fabric :)
So this weekend we attended the last birthday to celebrate in April, and I thought I could get back to sewing now.   Instead of making something for my daughter, I decided to make those pillowcase dresses for Dress a Girl around the World.

Fabric Tie Bow for Little Momo

I have had a pleasant Easter weekend. I was taking my daughter Momo out here and there, but managed to make some hair accessories for her this weekend.
I used scrap fabric to make some hair bows.  I like to make matching hair accessories after making a dress or a skirt, like this one:

Refashioned T-shirt Dress for Little Momo

I have several sewing projects I want to work on.  There are cute dresses and skirts tutorials I have pinned, and also there are some patterns I have bought and been sitting on my desk for months.  So I decided to clear easy & quick projects first, and this T-shirt refashioned dress was one of them.

Hat and Socks Makeover for Little Momo

My daughter Momo needed a new hat, as the last year's hat no longer fits her.  I went to Target, and unexpectedly found a hat for $1.  It is not fancy, it is cheaply-made.  But it only cost $1 and it was perfect for me to try and see if Momo would wear a hat...since Momo HATED wearing a hat last year.

Well this year, Momo seems to LOVE wearing a hat.  She would wear the hat and admire how she looks in the mirror :)

Springy Ruched Skirt for Little Momo

It is officially spring!  We welcomed spring in February here in Texas, and I have been wanting to create something with springy-feeling for my daughter Momo.  So I got this springy flower print fabric, and all I could think about was making another Ruched Skirt.  The full tutorial for the skirt can be found at: Blooms And Bugs.

Wall Hooks for Little Momo's room

I have been hanging my daughter Momo's jackets in the hallway closet in our house.  Of course little Momo cannot reach them by herself.  I wanted the wall hooks at her eye level in her room, so she can hang her jackets and purses on hew own.

Little Momo's Valentine's Photo

I finally had some time to take my daughter Momo's Valentine's picture yesterday.  I fed her, changed her diaper, made sure she is in good mood and then asked her to play "taking pictures" with me.
I made a Big Heart Pillow for this photo shoot purpose.  I wanted her to hold the big heart in the picture.  Well, Momo tried to carry the pillow around and would not sit still... I was able to get this one picture Momo sit on top of the heart pillow, and that was it.

Valentine Heart Pillow

Red heard shaped pillow is usually not something I use to decorate our house, but I decided to make this because I wanted to use it as a photo prop.  Last year we did not do anything special for Valentine, but this year I want to have my daughter Momo's Valentine picture taken.  Going to a photo studio is out of question, because Momo hates it...last time we went to a photo studio, I got pictures of her crying face:(   Besides that I LOVE taking Momo's pictures, so we will be taking pictures at home.
First I was thinking of creating "LOVE" sign for Momo to hold.  But who am I kidding?  Momo is not going to hold the sign facing straight to the camera.  I needed something Momo can play with and look good in the pictures.  So here is the big red heard pillow!

Ruched Skirt for Little Momo

I think my daughter Momo looks the best when she is wearing simple clothes.  This is especially true when taking her pictures.  But I felt like making something really girly for her.  Maybe Valentine approaching has something to do with my feelings
I have been seeing ruched skirts online and meaning to try it, so that is what I did.

Upcycled Sweater Dress for Little Momo

While I enjoy most of simple crafting, I like sewing clothes for my daughter Momo the best.  I especially love making dresses, because then I get to dress up my daughter :)  Just as many mothers out there do, I love dressing up my little girl.
The last dress I made for Momo was done in November.  I had plans to make more this winter, but then I just could not find time as the holidays came, Momo caught cold, and works were piled up, etc, etc.   I hear good planning is necessary when raising a small child, but then those plannings seem useless because things do not go as planned.  I was starting to get irritated as I was not getting anything done, so yesterday I made this upcycled sweater dress even though I had to cut my sleep time even more than usual.
